Troy University’s English Department will partner with the Troy Kiwanis Club to sponsor and host the Pike County Scripps Spelling Bee on Friday, Feb. 6 in the Lamar P. Higgins Ballroom in the Trojan Center. WSFA 12 News will carry a livestream of the event starting at 10 a.m.

24 students from Pike County schools, ranging from 1st to 8th grade, are set to compete in the event. Katelyn Schuler and Anna Orlofsky, Lecturers of English and organizers for the event, said they are excited to bring this prestigious competition to the local community.

“The Troy University English Department is proud to host the Pike County Spelling Bee in partnership with the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the longest-running educational competition in the United States,” they said.

“We would like to invite the community to join us in celebrating these outstanding students,” they continued. “If you see a participant wearing one of our spelling bee t-shirts, please offer your congratulations—they have worked hard to earn their place in this competition, and we are honored to recognize their achievements.”
