Troy University’s John M. Long School of Music will host the 8th annual Flute Day on Saturday, Feb. 28.
The free event is an opportunity for high school and college student musicians to learn more about sight-reading flute choir music, modern music, what to look for in flute upgrades and more. Dr. Heather Small, Flute Day coordinator and Associate Professor of Flute, said she is excited to host this event.
“It’s always a happy day when we can gather flutists from various backgrounds and levels to make music together and learn from each other,” Dr. Small said. “There is some beautiful music written for the flute and we take a day to celebrate it.”
Dr. Olivia Boatman, Assistant Professor of Flute at Mississippi State University, will serve as the guest artist this year. She will host a discussion on career exploration, aninformal Q&A session, a masterclass and a closing recital.
Vendors such as Flute Specialists, Inc., Playground Music and Beethoven & Co. will be present for the event.
