On Saturday, Feb. 28, about 50 high school and college students participated in the 8th annual Flute Day on the Troy campus.
This year’s event welcomed guest artist Dr. Olivia Boatman, Assistant Professor of Flute at Mississippi State University, who presented a session on time management for musicians, taught a masterclass and performed a recital. Several TROY Flute Studio alumni also attended the event.

“The 2026 Flute Day was a huge success,” said Dr. Heather Small, Flute Day coordinator and Associate Professor of Flute. “Many participants told me they were inspired and invigorated, and there were flutists of all levels — from second-year players to semi-professionals.”
The event opened with a concert by the Troy University Flute Studio. During the flute choir reading session, Dr. Mark Walker, Director of Bands, paid a visit and conducted a piece for large flute ensemble.
The vendors for this year’s event included Beethoven & Company from Tallahassee, Fla.; Playground Music Center from Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; and Flute Specialists from Clawson, Mich.
