Black Magnolia: An Unequivocal Southern Belle is the wisdom-rich story of an African American woman raised in the unsophisticated backwoods of Mississippi. Sherry Henderson tells her story through the beautiful Mississippi flowers that surrounded her from home to home. Just as all those flowers came together to create a bouquet of symbolic relationships, each chapter of her story blends with the next to reveal the blossoming tapestry of her life.

Henderson is a retired Adult Nurse Practitioner with a nursing career spanning more than 39 years. For 36 years, she served veterans at the Denver Department of Veterans Affairs. She loves to immerse herself in family history, genealogy and human behavior. She enjoys traveling, watching sports, reading and watching intriguing documentaries.

Henderson is a member of Literacy Nation, Inc., whose mission is to promote justice, equity and diversity in literacy by providing services to underserved communities of Color and supporting diverse self-published authors and independent booksellers.

“The Rosa Parks Museum is pleased to partner with TROY’s School of Nursing to bring Sherry Henderson to Montgomery to share her story,” said Donna Beisel, Director of Museum Operations. “We look forward to welcoming the community in for this exciting event.”
