W.A. Gayle Planetarium to host free Astronomy Day event on May 11

 

The W.A. Gayle Planetarium will host its 22nd annual Astronomy Day event on Saturday, May 11, featuring telescopic viewings of the night sky and presentations inside the planetarium.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is presented by Troy University Montgomery and the Auburn Astronomical Society.

Activities will begin at 5 p.m. with a telescope clinic. A presentation on black holes will begin at 6 p.m., followed by updates on the James Wylie Shepherd Observatory at Montevallo University and the Marshall Space Flight Center.

The planetarium program “Seeing,” narrated by Neil deGrasse Tyson, will be presented at 7:45 p.m. Following the program, a telescopic viewing of the night sky will be held outside of the planetarium, beginning at 8:15 p.m.
