Troy University is helping Troy Elementary School students build new outdoor classrooms.
The University and the Office of Civic Engagement applied for a Youth Service America MLK Day of Service Impact Grant on behalf of Troy Elementary School, which has been awarded $1,500 to improve its outdoor classroom space.
For this project, the Office of Civic Engagement and TROY student volunteers will help TES students clean up the existing nature trail and create two teaching areas.
The ongoing project kicked off in January and will continue through April, when an official dedication ceremony will be held for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service Outdoor Classroom.
This dedication ceremony will include representatives from the University and the school, as well as the Kawanis Club, the mayor of Troy and the Troy City Council.
