MathFest sparks new interests, creativity among participants

TROY's Department of Mathematics hosted MathFest on the Troy Campus April 13-14.

MathFest, held in John Robert Lewis Hall over the weekend, included various presentations exploring the applications of mathematics, competitions and a browse session.

The event, held on Friday evening and most of Saturday, was targeted towards undergraduate students, according to Ken Roblee, chair of the math department.

The partnership between TROY's math and athletics departments showed students how math is used in basketball to prepare for games.

A unique partnership between the Troy University Mathematics Department and local schools recently gave students an opportunity to learn how math correlates with basketball.

Mathsketball, a two-day camp Jan. 24-25 at Trojan Arena, exposed seventh- and eighth-grade girl basketball players from Pike County schools to the importance of math in athletics.

New York artists develop traveling variety show at TROY

The show, which has the working title

The show, which has the working title "Mathemagics," features a combination of math, science, juggling, musical theater and comedy.

A group of New York artists spent time at Troy University recently developing a unique educational variety show they plan to take on the road.

With the working title “Mathemagics,” the show combines elements of the circus, musical theater, sketch comedy, magic, math and science.
