After struggling on the road in conference play the Trojan men’s basketball team returned home and swept the top team in the Sun Belt East over the weekend.
The Trojans defeated App State 65-59 on Saturday night to complete a weekend sweep of the Mountaineers after a victory on Friday night.
TROY is now 5-0 at home even though this was only their first Sun Belt game in Trojan Arena this season.
Nick Stampley led the offense scoring 19 points and snagging seven rebounds. Freshman Kam Woods added 12 points and six assists.
While the Trojans have struggled in conference play so far this season, Head Coach Scott Cross says he is proud of his teams effort.
“Honestly this is probably as proud of a basketball team as I have ever been,” says Cross. “The grit and the determination and the fight that our guys showed. I felt like App gave us their best punch early on, they were tough. They’re physical. They are a great basketball team and our guys withstood it and we continued to play tough, continued to play together we didn’t panic.”
