Troy University’s School of Music honors memory of Dr. John M. Long through a musical performance

This week Troy University‘s John M. Long School of Music took time to honor the memory of its namesake in probably the most appropriate way possible through music.

Troy University Symphonic Band performed a concert Tuesday night that featured a performance dedicated to the memory of Dr. Long entitled “Never Forget.”

“It’s about just those people who make an important difference in your life and that you will never forget,” says Conductor of the Symphonic Band and Director of the School of Music Dr. Larry Blocker. “The title itself is reflective of that.”

Much of the success of the School of Music is credited to its namesake.

According to Blocker, Long brought a lot of outside culture to Troy University due to his expertise and influence.

“So what he brought to me was not only friendship but also skills and politics and those kind of things and approaches that have been applicable throughout my time here,” says Blocker.
