“We will perform and we will take classes audition and we will also watch other performances each night at little galas,” said dance student Carsyn Harris. “We will see world-renowned choreographers and principal dancers performing.”
Students and professors say this opportunity allows students to showcase talent and learn from some of the best in the business. During the trip students hope to participate in professional shows led by world-renowned choreographers.
The festival will last just over two weeks, which means students will have plenty of time to immerse themselves in the rich culture and art of Italy.
“They are able to see performances nightly and they also are able to audition for company intensives for the following summer,” said Dance Coordinator Deborah Hicks. “They might be cast in a piece that a professional is working toward.”
As final preparations are underway, students say the excitement is at an all-time high.
“We’ve all stayed in a pretty positive realm and been able to feed off that energy,” Harris explained. “I think that’s the biggest part of it is just staying joyful and keeping the optimistic perspective of like wow we’re about to go perform in another country and learn from all of these people.”
TROY students have been attending the DAP Festival since 2018.
