TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha hosted “Make a Goodie Bag” for Common Ground Troy and the Boys and Girls Club.
“We’re just making candy bags for the kids at the Boys and Girls Club, Halloween is coming up so we want to make sure they have candy,” said AKA member Zniya Manning. “In our organization we always give back. We love service, so doing this for the Boys and Girls Club is just something that we love to do.”
According to Manning, community service is one thing her organization loves to do. That’s why the group encourages students on campus to give back as well.
“It’s important to have events on campus just to get the students involved on campus,” Manning explained.
“I came to this event tonight because I really feel like it’s really important to support the younger kids at Common Ground and just the younger kids in general,” said freshman Kamyria Anderson. “I feel like doing anything to support them is good and it just makes me want to get out there and help the community.”
Anderson said she feels giving back to the community is the right thing to do.
“Giving back is always really good because people always come from different things. Everybody don’t come from what you come from, so I feel like it’s always just important to give back.”
