Trojans take on the Auburn Tigers in a midweek showdown

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — In its first home game since Feb. 18, the TROY softball team took on the 25th-ranked Auburn Tigers.

The Tigers drew first blood with a home run in the top of the first frame. They also added another run on an RBI single in the top of the fourth.

Although the Trojans started slow offensively, their bats began to wake up. Libby Baker earned the first run with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. The bottom of the seventh saw Cassidy Boltz tie the game at two with a home run.

The ninth inning saw both teams plate a run following lead off singles. However a crucial defensive error in the top of the 10th inning would be the dagger as the Trojans fell 4-3 in 10 innings.

Although the Trojans did not secure the win, head coach Eric Newell had high praises for his team.

“Pleased with the way that we fought, not pleased with the outcome,” Newell told TrojanVision. “But there certainly a lot of positives in that game.”

Coach Newell also feels the team can grow from this experience.

“That should tell our girls that we can play with teams of this caliber and this level. We competed really well and should have a lot of confidence moving forward.”

The Trojans were set to take on the Tigers in Auburn on March 4, but the game was postponed due to inclement weather.
