O’s Cool Bike Ride remembers Owen Wayne Lewis

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Heather and Onick Lewis hosted the second annual O’s Cool Bike Ride in remembrance of their son who unexpectedly lost his life in 2022.

“It’s all about Owen and his favorite things,” said Owen’s mother, Heather Lewis. “We just want to serve him to the best of our ability to keep his memory alive in all ways.”

The community gathered together to not only participate in the bike ride, but also to remember the life of 2-year-old Owen Wayne Lewis.

“He was the sweetest, cutest little thing with the curliest, prettiest little hair,” said Jordan Adams, one of Owen’s teachers. “We just want to come and support. We love Owen just like he was our own.”

“I had him as an infant,” said Heather Barron, another one of Owen’s teachers. “We loved him. He was the cutest little thing with that curly hair coming in.”

The Lewis family created a foundation to spread awareness about Lymphocytic Myocarditis and raise funds for a scholarship to give back to the community.

“Every single one of these riders is helping to fund our foundation and to keep us going for next year so that we can give more balance bikes, give a bigger scholarship and give more scholarship,” Lewis said. “It just means so much to see the support that we have from our community.”

This event also served as a way for the community to support the Lewis’s on the anniversary of Owen’s death.

“The cool thing about living in Troy is supporting one another,” said Chris Corr, a friend of the Lewis family. “Heather and Onick are a part of this community.”

The event had several different length bike rides, as well as a walk for those who didn’t want to ride. There were also several activities and a “trot around the quad” for children.
