TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — The Crenshaw County Alcazar Shrine Club is holding what it calls the “world’s largest peanut boil.”
This year marks the 54th time the Shriners have held the boil. The event has support from people in and around the community.
“I come every year,” said customer Melinda Defee. “I’m from Luverne. I live in Brantley, which is just about 10 minutes away, but I still come every year.”
More than 30 tons of peanuts are expected to boiled this weekend. Organizers say all of the money raised during the boil will go to a good cause.

“We support Alcazar Shriners in Montgomery, Alabama, and Shriners International,” said Crenshaw County Shriner President Andy Compton.
Customers like Defee say they purchase peanuts and offer their support in return for the Shriners’ help throughout the year.
“I also have a cousin who comes out and helps every year because the Shriners helped his family when he had a big house fire.”
The annual peanut boil has turned into an event that not only the surrounding community supports but also travelers.
“People come from all over the place and a lot of people who are traveling on the Labor Day weekend always plan to come through here,” Defee said. “So don’t snooze or you might lose.”
The peanut boil will run until Monday or until there are no more peanuts. If you want to support the boil, visit “Crenshaw County Alcazar Shrine Club’s Worlds Largest Peanut Boil” on Facebook.
The boil is located at 1704 Montgomery Hwy, Luverne, AL, United States, 36049.
