Students share thoughts, concerns ahead of presidential election

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — The race to the White House is on and Troy students’ votes will help decide the outcome.

As the election draws closer, some students have mixed feelings about the candidates and election process.

“My personal thoughts is that this election is really important for the next several years,” said student Samaaria Thompson. “What we need as an economy and what we need as a country.”

“I’ve kind of tried to stay neutral about it, I guess. I’ve really tried to not get myself super involved with it,” said Justin Wallace.

Students also have different ways they get their news about the election.

“Personally, I go to google to just look it up or I go to my dad. He’s very into politics, so I’ll just ask him, hey is this something good,” Thompson explained.

“I look at CNN on my phone. I look at the all the major news outlets that are unbiased, to an extent,” Wallace told TrojanVision.

Some students wish their candidates would answer their questions directly.

“Why? Why did you decide to actually run? Especially now,” asked student Ricardo Valencia.

“I would ask what’s in it for me? Having a definitive answer as to what we get out of what they’re trying to push on us is definitely a big thing for me,” Wallace explained.

Candidates are addressing several pressing issues in this upcoming election, but what do students care about?

“I hope for a little more transparency. I think, recently, we’ve had a lot of people say a lot of things without doing a lot of things,” said Valencia.

“I hope to see change in financial aid and helping students and adults who are struggling financially,” said Thompson.
