TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — With so many news outlets to get information from, it can be tricky to find unbiased and untrustworthy sources.
Some young people are turning away from traditional news outlets. Instead, they are using social media.
“Honestly, I just watch TikTok,” said student Zoey Williams. “News about the election is always on my ‘for you page’,” said student Zoey Williams.
“I get my news off of Facebook,” said student Aliska Hampton.

Although some students are turning to social media for their information about the election, the Office of Civic Engagement encourages students to follow unbiased sources.
“I would recommend that students go get their information from a variety of sources,” said Civic Scholar Matilda Ziegler. “Understanding both sides of the aisle is important. Students should get all sides of an issue and form their own opinion.”
Voting is a constitutional right that all students are encouraged to take advantage of. The Office of Civic Engagement hopes all students will cast a vote in November.
“It’s important for students to vote because their voice is so valuable,” said Lauren Cochran, Coordinator of the Office of Civic Engagement. “If we don’t hear that voice, there’s a great section of our population that’s not represented.”
