Troy Football drops Thursday Night matchup to Texas State

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — After a short week, the Trojans dropped their matchup against the Texas State Bobcats 38-17.

“In preparation for this short week I thought our guys battled and got back after an emotional loss last Saturday night,” said head coach Gerad Parker. “Clearly we just weren’t ready to come out of the locker room and do what it takes to be a good football team.”

Earlier in the week, quarterback Tucker Kilcrease was listed as a game time decision for the Trojans but was later named starter.

“We gave him mental reps on Monday and stuff early in the week,” Parker said. “As we started to see him be able to go, we got stuff in during our helmeted practice. By Tuesday when we went shoulder pad and helmet he was able to do enough to be able to execute.”

Wide receivers Mojo Dortch and Devonte Ross both recorded receiving touchdowns while receiver Landon Parker recorded 83 yards on five catches.

“You want to get your best players the football,” Parker explained. “Devonte’s a special player and there’s other special players in the room. They played differently towards Devonte tonight so the ball got dispersed sometimes differently than it should, and guys were ready.

Next Thursday we’ll start our Monday for the South Alabama game week when it falls on a weird Tuesday as well,” Parker said. “We need it from a health standpoint, and everybody needs some time away to collect thoughts and take steps towards improving as we go through the second half of our season.”

The Trojans take a buy week next before heading to Mobile to take on South Alabama on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
