City of Troy hosts 45th annual Fourth of July fireworks show

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — For many Troy residents, the city of Troy’s Fourth of July fireworks show isa tradition.

“I’m fixing to soon be 45 years old,” said Troy resident, James Shirley. “So, I’ve been doing this quite a while.”

“I’ve probably been about five or six years,” said fellow Troy resident, Dorthea Dow.

They are not alone. For the past 45 years, thousands of people have gathered at Veterans Memorial Stadium for the annual fireworks show.

“We do this every year here in Troy, at Troy University, and I always enjoy it,” Shirley added. “As a citizen, I love it.”

The event is a celebration of the United Stated becoming an independent nation. It is also a way to bring the community together.

“We all get to be together and enjoy the Fourth of July,” Dow said.

“I think Troy’s a great place and I think this is a wonderful thing for everyone to have a chance to do,” Shirley said.

This year’s show featured 20 minutes of approximately 10,000 fireworks and patriotic music meant to demonstrate a love for the country and all who call it home.
