Troy Soccer falls short to Southern Miss

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — After the tie against the wolves two weekends ago, the Trojans would try to bring home their first conference win against the Eagles of Southern Miss.

After breaking it down, the Trojans started quick and composed, maintaining possession for a majority of the game. With most of the time spent on the Eagles’ third, it wasn’t much of a surprise to see plenty of opportunities open up for the girls as Brooke Slater took seven corners throughout the first half.

Fans also saw plenty of shots make their way towards the Eagles’ net, but neither the set pieces on corners or the shots on goal could give Troy the edge in the first half.

However, fans kept the energy during the break as they recognized students athletes with 3.0 GPA’s. Afterwards, both teams found their way back on to the pitch for the second half, and Southern Miss would turn up their tempo going into it. In the 26th minute of the second half, a switch to the winger would give the Eagles a break away, which would result in a goal.

Troy would try desperately to equalize, but would fall short 0-1 to Southern Miss.

“We got to defend better and we got to finish our chances,” Head coach Stuart Gore said.

Sunday, the Trojans will face the Dukes at home at the Troy Soccer Complex. The game begins at 7 p.m.
