After more than 30 years of service to Troy University in a variety of roles, Sohail Agboatwala, Senior Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, will retire effective Sept. 30.
Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. said Agboatwala embodies what it means to be a lifelong Trojan.
“Sohail came from India in 1988 to study at Troy State University—but has become a Patriotic American and loyal Trojan,” Dr. Hawkins said. “He has served this university in many roles. Talented, loyal and with a strong work ethic, Sohail is a valued friend and colleague. His leadership will be missed. I wish him every success in this next chapter, and I know he will remain an active member of the TROY family.”

Agboatwala said he is grateful for the opportunity to have served TROY students.
“What I will miss most is the opportunity to interact each day with our incredible students,” Agboatwala said. “It has been a great honor to serve them and this institution.”
Following Agboatwala’s retirement, units currently within the division of Student Affairs will be temporarily reassigned to Dr. Judson Edwards, Interim Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Jim Bookout, Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration.
Dr. Edwards, will oversee the following areas:
- Enrollment Management
- Marketing and Communications
- International Student Services
- Student Counseling
- Student Health Center
- Student Involvement
- Student Services
Dr. Bookout, Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance and Business Affairs, will oversee:
- Residence Halls
- Transportation
- Trojan Fitness Center
- University Police
“It is important that my successor as Chancellor have the opportunity to shape the University’s senior leadership team,” said Dr. Hawkins, who will conclude his service as Chancellor on June 30, 2027. “I am grateful to Dr. Edwards and Dr. Bookout for stepping forward during this period of transition. These units have strong leaders already in place and are well positioned to continue serving our students and the University.”
