Witnesses describe moments after fatal apartment complex shooting

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — As the investigation into Thursday night’s deadly shooting at The Edge @ Troy continues, witnesses are sharing their stories.

Witnesses said everything started around 10:40 p.m. Thursday outside building 400.

“We heard a big bang outside and then some yelling,” said Sydney Parker, a resident at the apartment complex.

“I heard gunshots, but, at the time, I didn’t know they were gunshots,” said Kairi Walker, a resident at the apartment complex. “I just heard a loud pop.”

Many residents headed outside to balconies and walkways to see where the noise came from. That is when the news started to break.

“We went outside and we saw a silver car kind of backing up and then pulling into a parking spot,” Parker told TrojanVision. “Then we saw two males get out and run towards our right from our balcony.

“They were screaming, ‘my homeboy just got shot’.”

One resident called 911. Once officers arrived, they began processing the scene.

“We saw the cops running with guns,” Parker said. “They were asking where he went.

“We didn’t really know anything. They were talking to everybody, making sure everything was OK.”

Many people watched from their apartments. Some chose to investigate.

“Kind of walked over there and that’s kind of where he [the victim] was laying, ” said Abby Taylor, resident. “We kind of just watched.

“The police had a flashlight, and he flashed it on the body, and that’s when we could see it. We were just like, ‘oh my God.’

“We turned away and looked away for a little bit until he took the light off. It was disturbing to look at.”

Many people did tell TrojanVision that apartment employees were seen checking on residents and offering to help. TrojanVision contacted The Edge @ Troy, but was told it could not comment at the time.
