See how Troy students are reacting to the recent extreme cold

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — An artic cold front has been sweeping across the southeast, affecting temperatures and bringing dangerous conditions.

Most students on campus at Troy University have been bundled up, as temperatures as low as 19 degrees have been reported. Although some students are not used to the lower temperatures, some are enjoying the cold weather for a change.

“Honestly its crazy,” said Abigail Bienkowski, a senior multimedia journalism major. “Two days ago it was warm outside, and now I’m having to wear like multiple layers of pants. Alabama isn’t built for icy roads and snow storms.”

Students seem to have a love-hate relationship with the weather. While some were seen wearing in a t-shirt or shorts, others were wearing thick coats and pants.

“I wasn’t really prepared for it,” said Madison Bryant, a freshman biomedical science major. “I love the winter time, but at the same time, walking to my class in the cold, walking to my car in the cold, leaving the gym in the cold, it just hits.”

Once the sun starts setting, temperatures drop fast and wind chills become more noticeable.

“It feels good until you start walking around, around this time [sunset], and then the wind is so bad you just want to go back inside, ” said Vivian Chamberlain, sophomore global business major.

Despite the cold, some students say bundling up is not nearly as bad as sweating in the summer heat.

“From my nature, I’m in the south, I’m not made for this, but I love it. Much more than the heat,” said Caitlyn Harris, a senior political science major. “I hate walking to class and being sweaty. Being able to bundle up, I may be freezing, but at least I’m not sweaty.

“It’s not really what we are used to at all, but I love it all at the same time.”

Students are not through with the cold just yet. Another blast of winter weather is expected next week.
