Troy Women’s Basketball dominates South Alabama inside Trojan Arena

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy Women’s Basketball took down South Alabama inside Trojan Arena Wednesday, 84-73.

Troy led the entire game with a lead of 28 at one point in the game. However, the Jaguars closed in late and shortened the lead to as much as eight points before the Trojans shut the door for good.

“We had a good first half,” said Head Coach Chanda Rigby. “Our word for this game was sharp.

“We wanted to be sharp, not just strive to win, but strive to be sharp in everything we did. I thought in the first half, in many ways, we were sharp. In many ways, we came out and we played sharp, and in the second half, we were not.

“When we get pretty far ahead of somebody, for one reason or another, they always come back on us, and we’ve been fortunate that we haven’t lost a game over it just yet, but we have to figure out what’s causing that and discontinue that behavior.”

Emani Jenkins led the team in points with 18, while Fortuna Ngnawo and Zay Dyer both had double-doubles on the night. But one player who had extra motivation was Rachel Leggett, who was on the other side of the rivalry last year.

“It’s crazy,” Leggett said. “I tried not to think about it too much going into it so I could stay humble and hoop and do my thing, but thinking about it, it’s crazy.”

“Being here a year ago today, we got blew out by 30, so that’s really nice, I’ll take that.”

The Trojans have now defeated the Jaguars the last 11 times they’ve faced inside Trojan Arena. With the win, Troy is now guaranteed a top five seed in the Sun Belt Tournament and is a half game ahead of Georgia Southern for first in the conference.
