TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — The 4th Annual O’s Cool Bike Ride and Walk will return to Troy University’s campus this Saturday.
The ride is honor of Owen Lewis, the son of Troy University professors Heather and Onick Lewis. Owen passed away on April 28, 2022 from Lymphocytic Myocarditis. He was two years old.
Much of his life was spent outdoors and going on rides with his father using Onick’s “cool” bike, learning to ride his balance bike, and preparing to ride a regular bike.

For the past four years, the O’s Cool Bike Ride and Walk has helped provide balance bikes to low-income head-start programs in southern Alabama and endow the Owen Wayne Lewis Memorial Scholarship at Troy University. That scholarship is awarded yearly to a student that is majoring in social work, human services, hospitality, tourism or event management and is also a first-generation college student.
This year’s event will feature five rides that range in difficulty:
- T-Rex Tour (64 miles)
- Stegosaurus Stomp (45 miles)
- Triceratops Trek (34 miles)
- Raptor Trot/Ride (1.2 mile lap around campus)
- Little T-Rex Ride (designed for balance bike riders)
Same-day registration will be available Saturday. More information about registration can be found here.
