TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — A new emergency alert system is being rolled out in Pike County.

With Pike County’s reputation for seeing tornados, including an EF2 tornado in March 2025, and, most recently, a brief tornado in neighboring Coffee County, county residents are being urged to take precautions amid severe weather season.

That’s where the new system from the Pike County EMA comes in.

“We’ve explored and we’ve changed to an online system called Rave Alert,” said Herbert Reeves, Pike County EMA Director.

Rave Alert is an online-based alert system that notifies people in Pike County in the event of inclement weather. Even if you don’t have a phone, you can access the alert system many ways.

“They can receive it from a landline phone, they can receive it from a sailor phone, they can receive it through email,” said Reeves. “If they have a pager-type thing they can sign up. There are multiple ways to reach that.”

Personalization is also available.

“You can be weather-specific and you can be geographically specific,” Reeves explained. “For example you may live in Goshen but you’re getting messages about something that may be occurring in Banks, and if you don’t want those, you can opt out of those.”

As extreme heat comes through many parts of the country this week including Alabama, Rave Alert can also send alerts for extreme heat as well. Other emergency alerts include those for traffic, missing people, law enforcement and fire. Non-emergency alerts cover Troy, Goshen, the Pike County Commission, Brundidge and preparedness tips.
