TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — A club that once helped broadcast journalists has returned to Troy University.

The Broadcast Club allows students to dive deeper into the different types of broadcast and learn how the industry works before heading into the professional world.

“We’re going to do station tours,” said Jimmy Nichols, Broadcast Club President. “We’re going to have guest speakers come and talk with us.

“We’re going to go out and we’re going to bring in topics for us to discuss. We’ll sometimes have food provided. It’s twenty dollars for a full year, but it gets you all these experiences to help you understand what you need to know.”

“We’re doing television, we’re doing radio, we’re doing all of it,” said Hunter Boozer, a Broadcast Club member. “It’s just all of journalism, all of broadcast.

“We’re not just sticking to one thing and running with it. We’re going to explore pretty much everything.”

According to Nichols, this club offers experience that can benefit students of every classification and that time is of the essence.

“This is really an opportunity for anybody to kind of get the chance to learn more,” Nichols said. “I’m a senior, I graduate in the spring, but we have people in here who are freshmen.

“Some of the things we’re going to be talking about and learning, I wish I would’ve known as a freshman. We have juniors and seniors who just now started, learning these types of things. If they know this stuff now, they could go ahead and get ready for the industry as we get set.”

The club meets in Wallace Hall in the TrojanVision studio. Meetings are every third Thursday at 6 p.m. with the next meeting being on Oct. 29.
