Trojans draw with the ULM Warhawks

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — For the second straight match a Troy soccer contest has ended in a draw, after the Trojans drew with ULM Warhawks on Saturday in a 1-1 match.

“Monroe came out really strong and they pressed us well,” head coach Jake Wyman said. “We had to work through that, and whether that storm, but then I thought as the second half went on we were able to kind of grow into it and gave ourselves a few chances, a few set pieces, a few opportunities to to score the game winner just never came.

“I think a little frustrated from a performance standpoint, because I know we didn’t play as well as we could have but I think it’s a sign of a good team when you don’t play well and you find find a way to you know give yourself a point against the defending league champions.”

Scoring the lone goal for the Trojans was freshman Aiden Bailey, marking her first career goal. The goal comes after her first career assist in Troy’s last game against Southern Miss.

“I think it’s definitely been difficult since I came in as a six, then an eighth, then a ten and now I’m on the center back, but somehow I’m finding chances and creating goal opportunities for my team,” Bailey said. “It’s been really cool to see how I can contribute in different ways.”

Troy now heads on the road for a matchup against the 7-4-3 Georgia Southern Eagles.

“We got to go to Statesboro and try and find a result against a good George Southern team that knows how to win games,” Wyman said. “We got to play well, probably play our best, and that’s tough. Anywhere on the road in the Sunbelt, it’s gonna be difficult.”

Troy’s last three games of the season will be decisive to it making the Sunbelt tournament as only the top 8 teams make the trip to Foley. Currently, the Trojans are tied with Coastal Carolina for eighth after the tie with ULM.

Troy’s matchup with Georgia Southern is set for Thursday at 3 p.m. CST. For the fans not driving to Statesboro, Georgia, the game will be streamed live on ESPN Plus.
