Meet TROY’s new starting quarterback: Goose Crowder

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) —When it comes to a new season for any sport, changes are expected for the team’s improvement.

That just so happens to be the case for West Virginia transfer Goose Crowder, Troy Football’s new starting quarterback for the 2024 football season.

“Troy has rich traditions and success with past championships and I want to be a part of that,” Crowder told TrojanVision. “When you come on campus, it speaks for itself. The people are awesome here and the community is great. Also, there is not too bad of football here so that definitely helps.”

During the 2023 season, Crowder completed 5-of-6 passes for 49 yards and rushed three times, along with a 4-yard rush, at Kansas State. He also completed 4-of-7 passes for 45 yards and a touchdown at ULM.

  • Ht./Wt: 6-2 / 210
  • Prev. School: West Virginia

“When you get on the field, you try to block out all of the outside noise since it’s your 11 versus theirs,” Crowder said. “So, I’m just kind of ready to roll the ball out there and play. I’m not one for trying to look at all the social media because it is what it is. I’m really just trying to go out there and play with my guys and win.”

Throughout practices, Crowder continues to work on his skills in preparation for the upcoming season while maintaining a teamwork relationship with his teammates and coaches.

“It’s been awesome. Everyone comes to work every day and gives it their all,” Crowder explained. “The coaches are great men and even better coaches. So, this makes it easy to come out here. We all come out here with a smile on our faces and just enjoy it.”

Outside of his football career, number nine on the field loves being outdoors and helping the community.

Another little fun fact, Crowder got his nickname Goose from his favorite movie character in “Top Gun.” He said the character’s name has stuck with him since he was a child, which is why he decided to bring it on the field.

Troy football’s season opener game will be Saturday, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m.
