Devin Lafayette nets Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week

TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Troy’s victory during the Battle for the Belt will be remembered in the history books; as will game captain and senior Devin Lafayette‘s stunning 19 tackle performance.

“Beating South is a huge accomplishment as a team,” said Lafayette. “It’s a battle for a belt, it’s a huge rivalry, and Troy has been up against South for a long time so its a huge honor and great team work for us to go get that belt back.”

Lafayette had more to be proud about as his exploits on the field did not go unnoticed. His stellar performance on Saturday made him Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

“Being Defensive Player of the Week is definitely an honor,” Lafayette said. “I want to thank my guys, they’re the ones that fitted things up to where I can just go make the plays. It’s something I definitely am proud of, it’s a huge accomplishment.”

Lafayette was made captain of the Troy football team, showing his experience, leadership, and dedication to the team, on and off the field.

“It’s a huge honor being picked by my guys on this team,” Lafayette told TrojanVision. “When you really go into it detail about it, a captain is someone you know you can trust, someone that can lead, someone that can perform. Being picked as that role by all my teammates is a huge honor and blessing.”

As Troy goes on to play Texas State on the road, and more Sun Belt teams, Trojan fans hope Lafayette keeps performing at such a high level.
