TROY, Ala. (TROJANVISION) — Snow covered Troy University’s campus over the long weekend, giving students a rare sight for the second year in a row: snowfall in Troy.
After days of uncertainty surrounding winter weather forecasts, many students woke up Sunday morning to a surprise — a blanket of snow outside their windows. For many, it was an experience they never expected to have while attending school in Alabama.
“I was absolutely amazed,” student Stephen Shropshire said. “I was shocked that it actually snowed in Alabama at this time.”
Students from out of state were especially surprised by the winter weather. Two students from Florida said they never expected to see snow on campus, especially when areas just a few hours away saw none at all.
“They’re both from Florida, about two and a half hours away, and they didn’t get any snow and we did,” one student said. “So it’s cool.”

With temperatures steadily rising, students knew time was limited to enjoy the snow before it melted. Many took advantage by gathering on campus lawns for snowball fights, photos, and even building snowmen.
“We had a snow fight and it was really fun,” student India Wilson said. “If no one was out here, they’re missing out because it’s been a blast.”
Others embraced the cold despite being unprepared for winter conditions.
“We had a snowball fight and built a snowman,” Shropshire said. “It was freezing because I didn’t bring gloves, but it was so much fun. I love snow.”
By midday, the snow had already begun to fade, revealing the green grass Trojans are more accustomed to seeing. While the winter weather didn’t last long, students say the memories certainly will.
