TROY to host mental health forum on Nov. 6

News | November 5, 2024

The event is held in partnership with the David Matthews Center for Civic Life and Auburn University.

The event is held in partnership with the David Matthews Center for Civic Life and Auburn University.

In partnership with the David Matthews Center for Civic Life and Auburn University, Troy University is hosting a forum on the growing mental health crisis on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 3 p.m.

Faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to the discussion, titled “Mental Health: What Should We Do About the Growing Crisis?” The discussion will follow a guide prepared by the David Mathews Center, a non-profit organization based out of Montevallo, Alabama.

Dr. Mark Wilson of Auburn University and Chauntina Whittle, TROY alumna and Mathews Center Civic Fellow, will serve as neutral facilitators. Participants will also deliberate the pros and cons of various approaches to the issue.

“We’re excited to be able to host a forum on such a critical issue that impacts so many on our campus as well as in our community,” said Lauren Cochran, Coordinator of Civic Engagement at TROY. “It is our hope that participants gain a better understanding of the challenges associated with mental health through discussing three approaches of actions we might take as members of our communities.”

The event will begin at 3 p.m. in the Trojan Center Ballrooms and is scheduled to last until 4:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.

To attend the event, register online here.
