The College of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Troy University launched a new podcast titled Growing the Forest and the Trees. Hosted by faculty members Dr. Lisa Etheridge and Dr. Shirley J. Farrell, the series takes a closer look at the teaching profession, balancing discussions about the broader landscape of education with the everyday realities of classroom life.
The podcast reflects the complexity of teaching by considering both the “forest” and the “trees.” Through humor, experience and practical insight the hosts engage listeners in conversations that are relevant to educators, students and the wider community.
Dr. Lisa Etheridge is an Associate Professor at Troy University with 24 years of classroom teaching experience. She serves as Program Coordinator for the Education Specialist programs in the Department of Teacher Education and focuses her work on curriculum development, instructional strategies and professional growth.
Dr. Shirley J. Farrell is an Associate Professor with over 30 years in Education and Coordinator of the Gifted Education program in the Department of Teacher Education. She is a recipient of the Wallace D. Malone Jr. Distinguished Faculty Award and brings experience as a classroom teacher, district gifted education coordinator and state education specialist.

New episodes will be released on the last Tuesday of every month excluding school breaks and will feature topics that include instructional strategies, teacher wellness and the challenges and successes that define the teaching profession.
