Sorrell College of Business’ School of Hospitality, Sport and Tourism Management has achieved re-affirmation from the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation.

COSMA is a specialized accrediting body whose purpose is to promote and recognize excellence in sport management education worldwide in colleges and universities at the baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral levels through specialized accreditation. TROY is one of just 36 sport management programs in the country to hold the seal of approval, and one of just three doctoral-level programs to do so.

“The COSMA reaccreditation of our Sport Management programs at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels affirms our mission of achieving excellence in sport management education,” said Sorrell College Dean Dr. Judson Edwards. “Our sport management peers and the COSMA Board of Commissioners have validated that our programs, courses, faculty, and students are deserving of specialized accreditation.”

Sorrell’s HSTM program underwent a rigorous review that consisted of a self-study, a site visit by a COSMA team, and a response process. The University’s efforts were led by Dr. Nicole Sellars, an associate professor and the Sport Management Undergraduate Coordinator for the School.

“Graduates should know that the Sport Management programs at Troy University have undergone a thorough review by COSMA and its Board of Commissioners, both of which have affirmed that our programs excel at educating and preparing sport students to enter into their sport management careers,” she said.

COSMA has been recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), which serves as a “national and international authority on accreditation and quality assurance. As a recognized accreditor, this means that COSMA itself has undergone a review to ensure transparency, excellence, and high standards,” Sellars said.
