One of the highlights of Homecoming each year is the parade in downtown Troy, presented by the Pike County Chamber of Commerce.

From the annual parade to competitions, a pep rally and more, homecoming week at Troy University is full of things to do.

Throughout the week, there are free events for students including a dance competition and skit night. The week culminates in the parade through downtown Troy and the football team’s matchup against Arkansas State on Saturday, Oct. 7. Kickoff for the game is set for 3 p.m.

The theme, “T is for TROY,” circles back to the community, according to Betsy Bennett, the SGA Vice President of Campus Affairs.

“We wanted students to remember why they chose TROY,” said Bennett, a junior human services major from Eufaula, Alabama. “We also wanted to incorporate the ‘Power T’ into the theme and logo this year.”

Homecoming isn’t just for students, either.

“Homecoming is a time to remember why we’re here,” Bennett said. “It’s also a time to recognize alumni and those who have shaped the university into what it is today.”

Faith Byrd, the Alumni Affairs director, said homecoming week is an important time for TROY graduates.

“Homecoming is a magical time at TROY,” Ward said. “It’s a good time to reunite with old classmates and friends. A lot of [the alumni] have not seen the university in a good while, so it’s an opportunity for them to see the new buildings and growth that’s happening around campus.”

Alumni events include an alumni tailgate, alumni of the year presentations at halftime of the game and a ball to raise money for scholarships. The tailgate is free for Troy University Alumni Association members.
