Troy University’s Board of Trustees honored one of its own by naming a newly endowed chair of Risk Management and Insurance in the Sorrell College of Business.
The Karen Carter Chair of Risk Management and Insurance honors her service to the University and recognizes her “outstanding professional career in the insurance field,” according to the enacting resolution.

She was appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2009. She is retired as Agency Field Executive for State Farm Insurance Companies. A 1973 summa cum laude graduate of Troy University, she earned the marketing certification at the Kellogg Business School at Northwestern University and has completed leadership concentrations in Stanford University’s Executive Program, the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, and the Dow Leadership College at Hillsdale College.
Chosen Alumna of the Year in 2002, she has served on the Sorrell College’s Business Advisory Council and as chair of the Troy University Foundation Board of Directors.
As a trustee, she has served as chair of the Academic Affairs Committee, where she has championed student welfare, promotion of international education, adherence to the highest standards of academic excellence.
“This means so much to me and my family,” she said. “The trustees and the people sitting around the walls of this room are my Trojan Family and to have this honor means more than you’ll ever know.”
