A Chinese New Year festival takes place Thursday, Jan. 31 at the Trojan Center Ballrooms, and a Vietnamese New Year celebration follows Feb. 8.

Troy University international students will hold a variety of public new year celebrations in the coming weeks.

The celebrations start with the annual Chinese New Year Spring Festival on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. in the Trojan Center ballrooms.

This year’s program includes traditional dances and performances along with Chinese food, such as fried rice with Chinese sausage, fried dumplings, shrimp with white pepper, and fried rice cake.

“This includes dinner and a show, designed to share the Chinese culture and what the Chinese New Year is all about,” said Jamie Sessions, international student adviser.

On Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m., the Center for International Programs presents a Vietnamese New Year celebration.

Tickets for these events can be purchased at the International Program Office, located in the basement of Hawkins Hall.

On Feb. 16, International Programs teams with Troy University Athletics to present a special Chinese New Year-themed women’s basketball game at Trojan Arena.

Both China and Vietnam are celebrating the Year of the Pig.
