Community forum to focus on future of Montgomery schools

“The Future of Montgomery Schools” will be the topic of a free community forum at Troy University’s Rosa Parks Museum on Tuesday, April 16.

A part of the museum’s Real Talk Community Forum series, the panel discussion is set for 6 p.m. in the museum auditorium. The forum will feature discussion of the status of Montgomery Public School’s accreditation and current concerns, as well as focus on how the city’s schools can be improved.

Krista Johnson of The Montgomery Advertiser will moderate the panel, which will include Bernard Mitchell, chief academic officer of Montgomery Public Schools; Zestlan Simmons, Alabama Teacher of the Year from Montgomery’s Booker T. Washington Magnet High School; and, Phillip Ensler, a civil rights lawyer and education advocate.

For more information, contact Madeline Burkhardt at 334-241-8701 or by email at mburkardt@troy.edu.

The Real Talk Community Forum Series is held regularly by the museum to address current topics of interests or concern and offers area residents the opportunity to gain information and share viewpoints in a safe and civil setting.
