Troy University’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents its annual fall dance, “Art in Motion: Moving Pictures,” this weekend at the Trojan Center Theater.

The production, which features 69 dancers and 11 choreographers, takes place Oct. 24-26 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 27 at 2:30 p.m.

“Last year, our collaboration with the Department of Art and Design set the task for Art and Design students to create a work inspired by the story of the choreographer’s vision, and they created beautiful, beautiful work,” said Deborah Hicks, TROY Coordinator of Dance. “This year, our student choreographers have drawn their inspiration from the work of student photographers, work which has given them a new perspective on artistic expression and has brought to life for them Degas’ reminder to all artists that ‘art is not what you see but what you can make others see.’”

TROY Dance Lecturer Dominique Angel will direct the dance, while senior Emma Twiggs will serve as assistant artistic director.

“The reason people should come to our dance show is because it is an integration of two different art forms,” Twiggs said. “We are representing dance and photography. The choreographers have used the photographers work to inform their own and create beautiful, thoughtful and unique work.”

Twiggs said the collaboration between students makes the show unique.

“The show is extremely student-involved,” she said. “While we have guidance from our faculty, we have student dancers, choreographers, photographers, lighting designers and stage management. It is students sharing students’ stories, and it is an incredible experience.”

Tickets cost $10 ($5 with a student ID) and can be purchased at the Trojan Center Box Office, at www.troytheatre.org or by calling 334-808-6477.
