Troy University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present its fall dance production, “Art in Motion: Rooted in REconnections,” Oct. 29-31 at 6:30 p.m. and Nov. 1 at 1:30 p.m. at the Trojan Center Theater.

“Art in Motion,” which is celebrating its 10th year, is one of two dance productions put on by the department each school year. “Rooted in REconnections” will explore the intricate connection between humanity and nature, highlighting themes of growth, change, resilience and renewal.

Director Ava Michael, a junior dance major from Atlanta, said this year’s show grew out of a semester of collaborative planning.

“‘Art in Motion’ has always been a space for student choreography but has grown into something even bigger by giving students the opportunity to produce the show themselves,” Michael said. “It all starts in a class called Writing for Dance, where we spend the semester planning and creating what our class wants ‘Art in Motion’ to look like that year. We wanted to explore the intricacy between human nature and human connection, and how the world around us is impacted by both.”

“I’m so thankful that the Department of Theatre and Dance has given us the opportunity to help bring this show to life,” Michael continued. “I’ve learned so much throughout this process, not just as a director, but as a person too.”

Gracie Avalos, a senior dance major from Tifton, Georgia, shared what the show’s theme meant to her.

“‘Rooted in REconnections,’ to me, means finding a way back to yourself, the people who surround you, and the things that keep you grounded in life,” she said.

Avalos said her favorite part of the experience has been the community that formed within the cast.

“Throughout this process, I feel as if I have grown closer to my fellow cast members and created a connection and bond that will continue to grow,” Avalos said. “To anyone who is considering coming to the show, I highly recommend it! Everyone has poured their heart and soul into this show, and it is an experience that I believe everyone should witness.”
