Historian Wayne Flynt will discuss “The Richness of Alabama Culture and Harper Lee” on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in Sony Hall in the Terry Everett Building at the Dothan Campus of Troy University. This event is free, and the public is invited.

The presentation features the themes in three of Flynt’s latest books, “Alabama: The History of a Deep South State, Bicentennial Edition,” “Mockingbird Songs: My Friendship with Harper Lee,” and “Southern Religion and Christian Diversity in the Twentieth Century.” All books will be available for purchase and signing.

Flynt is a distinguished university professor emeritus at Auburn University and has published fourteen books.

“Dr. Flynt is the foremost public intellectual and best-known Alabama historian in the state at this time,” said Dr. Marty Olliff, director of the Wiregrass Archives and professor of history at Troy University’s Dothan Campus. “His deep knowledge and love for Alabama’s culture and history come through with every presentation, every publication. His legendary friendship with Harper Lee will make this an evening to remember.”

The event is co-sponsored by the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities, with funding from the Kelly Mosley Endowment for Draughon Seminars in State & Local History.
