Troy University’s John M. Long School of Music hosted over 200 students from eight Alabama high schools for their annual Choir Day on Thursday, Oct. 23. 

Students participated in workshops led by Dr. Michael Mills, Assistant Professor of Music/Choral Music Education; Dr. Scott Sexton, Assistant Director of the John M. Long School of Music and Assistant Professor of Music Education and Dr. Sara Wee, Associate Professor of Voice.

Special performances were also given by the Troy University Concert Chorale and frequency, TROY’s vocal jazz ensemble. Students shared that this was a favorite part of their day. 

“The choirs were both really good and you could tell that they love what they do,” said Eliana Bates, a junior from Wetumpka High School.

 “My favorite thing was the friendly faculty and choral members and their passion for their craft,” said Javon Ryerson, also from Wetumpka High School. 

“It’s always wonderful to have high school singers visit us on campus,” said Dr. Sexton. “There’s always something special about hearing that many voices in harmony in Long Hall. I was especially proud of our current Choral Music Education students at TROY. They were able to gain valuable experience working with high school students. Our TROY students helped the day run very smoothly and served as great ambassadors as we shared with our guests what we love about our university and its choral offerings.”
