Troy University Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., the longest-serving CEO of a public university in America and a decorated U.S. Marine Corps veteran, shares his perspectives on leadership in a new podcast and radio show premiering today.
“On Leadership with Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr.” from Troy University and Troy Public Radio features Dr. Hawkins’ commentary on strategies for leadership success and the vital role leaders play in shaping communities and organizations. The podcast can be found on all major podcast platforms (including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Play) and airs every other Friday at 1:33 p.m. on TROY Public Radio.
The show marks a return to the airwaves for Dr. Hawkins, who first hosted “On Leadership” as a limited series on TROY Public Radio 25 years ago. The time is right to bring “On Leadership” back, Dr. Hawkins said, because the need for leaders is as great as ever.
“We at Troy University embrace leadership development as vital to our culture and mission,” Dr. Hawkins said. “Developing the next generation of leaders is our duty and one of my top priorities. I spend a lot of time with students eager to learn leadership lessons, but not all learning is relegated to the classroom and not all students are enrolled in college. That’s why I am honored to share these insights with all who will listen.”
Dr. Hawkins, now in his 34th year as the University’s chief executive officer, defines leadership as “the management of hope.” He hopes the podcast will reach a broad audience to help them develop their own leadership styles.
“If you teach Sunday school, you are a leader. If you hold office in a civic club or your school’s PTA, you are a leader. If you offer yourself in service to your community—you are a leader,” he said. “I hope people will benefit from the lessons we have planned over the coming months.”
