TROY TrojanVision to salute military, veterans with Memorial Day programming

May 24, 2018

Memorial Day is May 28, and TROY TrojanVision has scheduled a lineup of programs honoring veterans and those who have given their lives in defense of the United States of America, along with programs that tell the distinctive TROY story of giving back to those who serve.  All times are CDT.

The lineup starts with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Learning Adventure, a new program from Alabama Public Television and Troy University that provides an oral history about the war and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial to a new generation.  This evocative and emotional program will air at 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

At 2:00 p.m., TROY Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam conflict, returns to southeast Asia to hand out diplomas to Troy University graduates in Books Instead of Bullets.  This program will be repeated at 7:00 p.m.

At 2:30 p.m., TrojanVision’s Aaron Taylor introduces viewers to Danielle Pankey, director of the Troy for Troops Center and learns about resources available at TROY that helps vets, currently serving armed forces members and their dependents make the most of their college opportunity in this episode of One on One. Repeats at 7:30 p.m.

At 3:00, see TROY journalism graduate Hayden Glass’ documentary Walk Hard, about the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity’s philanthropy of the same name, in which fraternity members devote their spring break to walking from Troy to Panama City Beach, Fla., to raise money to benefit wounded veterans. Repeats at 8:00 p.m.

At 3:30 p.m., it’s the harrowing, amazing story of Command Sergeant Major Bennie Adkins, TROY alumnus and Medal of Honor recipient.  Featuring CSM Adkins’ own oral history of the 1966 battle for which he earned the nation’s highest military honor, and the 2014 White House ceremony in which he was presented the Medal of Honor. Repeats at 8:30 p.m.
