Troy University has announced updated tailgating policies designed to promote a safe, enjoyable and family-friendly game day environment for students, alumni, fans and visitors attending athletic events on campus.

The updated policy, developed collaboratively by the Troy University Police Department, Troy Athletics and University leadership, outlines expectations for tailgating conduct, setup procedures, parking, golf cart operations and campus safety measures.

“We want game day at Troy University to remain an exciting and welcoming tradition for our students, alumni, families and fans,” said Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. “Tailgating has long been an important part of that experience, a time for the Trojan community to gather before the game, reconnect with friends and celebrate the spirit of TROY. This policy helps reinforce that tailgating is a pregame activity and encourages the excitement and energy of the day to move into Veterans Memorial Stadium once kickoff begins.”

Among the key updates and reminders included in the policy are:

  • Tailgating may begin at 7 a.m. on the day of home football games or approved athletic events, unless adjusted for early kickoffs.
  • All tailgating activities must conclude by kickoff time. Exceptions may be made only with advance approval from Events Management or Troy Athletics.
  • Personal tents are permitted only in designated areas and may not exceed 12 feet by 20 feet without prior approval.
  • Fully enclosed tents and inflatables are prohibited.
  • Golf carts must remain on streets and roadways and may not be operated on sidewalks. Operators must be licensed drivers.
  • Pets are not permitted in tailgating areas or sporting venues, with the exception of approved service animals.
  • Amplified music must remain at reasonable levels and be appropriate for all audiences.

Visitors are encouraged to review the complete policy prior to attending game day activities. Tailgating areas and game day parking locations are managed jointly by Troy University Events Management and Troy Athletics.
