Events feature the annual health fair, Spring picnic and the Woodham Memorial Lecture.

Troy University invites the public to the annual TROY Health and Wellness Fair, the Woodham Memorial Lecture and other Heritage Week events at the University’s Dothan Campus beginning April 22.

Vendors from the medical community will attend the fair to answer questions, give advice and administer health screenings, such as vision assessments, blood pressure checks, glucose testing, oximetry levels, hearing screenings and more.

A variety of vendors will be on campus to offer health screenings and valuable information, including Southeast Health, Houston County Chiropractic, the Alabama Department of Public Health, Vita-Fuse, SpectraCare, Nature’s Point CBD, Deep South Home Medical, Enroll Alabama, Alabama Cooperative Extension Services, Center for Vein Restoration, CPAP Plus, Five Horizons Health Services, UAB Dental and more.

This event is open to TROY students as well as the general public. The fair will be held on Tuesday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Harrison Room in Malone Hall.

Dr. W. Charles Lewis will give the Woodham Memorial Lecture

“We understand the importance of maintaining physical and mental health and we look forward to providing the Dothan Campus students, staff and faculty, as well as the public, with services that can assist with living a healthy lifestyle,” said Sandra Ledford Henry, Associate Dean of Student Services at the Dothan Campus.

The Woodham Memorial Lecture will be held on Thursday, April 24 at noon. This year’s lecture speaker, Dr. W. Charles Lewis, will give a talk titled, “Prominent Black History Makers: Dothan, Alabama.”

Lewis is the founder and senior pastor at Dothan Community Church. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Tuskegee University, received staff training with the Navigators at the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana and holds both the Th.M and D.Min degrees from Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas.

Lewis has taught at the Baptist College of Florida in Graceville, Florida and is currently a professor at the Dothan extension of the Birmingham Theological Seminary of Birmingham, Alabama. He is a church planting coach and pastoral mentor, and before moving to Dothan he served churches in Dallas and Birmingham.

An advocate for racial reconciliation, Lewis co-founded PACE (Proclaiming America’s Call for Equality) in 2015 which sponsors FREEDOM SPEAKS, a speech competition among high school students which showcases Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s “I Have A Dream” speech and President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, two renown speeches delivered during times of racial unrest.

The week wraps up Friday night with the annual Honors Convocation recognizing student achievements.

  • Tuesday, April 22 — Health and Wellness Fair, Harrison Room, 9 a.m.-noon
  • Wednesday, April 23 —Picnic on the Quad, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 24 — Woodham Memorial Lecture, Harrison Room, noon-1 p.m.
  • Friday, April 25 — Honors Convocation. The Honoree Reception begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Harrison Room
