Troy University Receives Continuing Accreditation for Doctoral and Master Nursing Programs

Troy University has received continuing accreditation for its clinical doctorate nursing program from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN.) ACEN is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

“Part of being an approved nursing program in the state means we also have to hold national accreditation,” said Dr. Wade Forehand, Director of the School of Nursing. “National accreditation means we meet exceptional standards in nursing education.”

ACEN evaluates programs based on five key standards: Administrative Capacity and Resources, Faculty, Students, Curriculum, and Outcomes. During its review, ACEN recognized the university’s financial support for all faculty exceeded the requirements set by the accreditation standards.

“The high points are that we are not only compliant with accreditation, but they also identified some strengths,” Dr. Forehand added. “It is really the faculty that makes TROY’s programs exceptional. We need their diversity and experiences.”

Additional financial support, which includes funding for conferences and grants for research projects, helps faculty improve their teaching, scholarship and research—all of which benefit the graduate nursing program.

“The continuing accreditation of our MSN and DNP programs is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our nursing leadership and graduate faculty,” said Dr. LaGary Carter, Dean of the College of Health Sciences. “Their unwavering commitment to academic excellence is closely tied to the success of our students and alumni.”

ACEN conducted its visit in February, and the Board of Commissioners granted continuing accreditation for the DNP program in October. The next evaluation is scheduled for Spring 2032.
