Troy University’s Student Organ Donation Association (SODA) has once again proven the power of storytelling and student advocacy, earning the prestigious Most Impactful Media Feature award for their coverage of the annual Legacy Event. The award was presented by SODA National, recognizing outstanding media contributions that elevate awareness and inspire action in the field of organ donation.

The winning piece, authored by College Communications Coordinator, Kait Nesbitt, captured the heart and mission of the Legacy Event—an annual gathering that honors organ donors, celebrates recipients, and educates the campus community about the life-saving impact of organ donation.

“This award means so much to myself, the SODA officers and members.” said the chapter’s faculty advisor, Dr. Kim Andrews. “It is a direct reflection of the hard work, dedication, and service the Troy University SODA chapter has devoted in educating the public regarding organ donation.”

Kait’s feature highlighted not only the emotional depth of the event but also the broader mission of SODA: to normalize conversations around organ donation and empower young people to make informed, life-saving decisions.

“Writing this story was an honor,” Kait shared. “I wanted to do justice to the voices of those who have given and received the gift of life. It’s their courage and generosity that made this piece so powerful.”

As Troy SODA continues to grow in impact and reach, this award serves as a reminder of the importance of student-led advocacy and the role of media in shaping a more compassionate, informed world.
