It’s not unusual for nations to try and influence foreign elections.

However, TROY Political Science Professor Dr. Michael Slobodchikoff says the Russian efforts during the 2016 U.S. presidential election are noteworthy for both for their scope and how successful they were at sowing discord and disinformation via social media.

“What makes the Russian case so differ is that it was so effective, and that they were able create a new narrative in the election and make people really questions what is the truth,” Slobodchikoff said.
