Troy University has revised its tailgating guidelines for the 2026 football season, announced in July, following a review of feedback from alumni, fans and other University stakeholders.
The newly revised guidelines are intended to preserve TROY’s longstanding tailgating traditions while promoting a safe, enjoyable and family-friendly game day environment for students, alumni, families, fans and visitors.
Under the revised guidelines, tailgating activities will now be permitted to continue during football games. Fans are still encouraged to make their way into Veterans Memorial Stadium in time for kickoff to support the Trojans. Tailgating equipment, tents and personal belongings should be removed within one hour following the conclusion of the game unless otherwise approved by Troy Athletics or University Events.
“We appreciate the alumni, fans and other members of the TROY community who took the time to share their thoughts with us,” said Director of Athletics Kyle George. “Tailgating is an important part of the college football experience and a great TROY tradition. Our goal is to provide an environment where Trojans can come together and enjoy game day while also being respectful of their neighbors and helping us maintain a safe and welcoming campus. We believe these revised guidelines provide the flexibility our fans value while maintaining that commitment.”
The revised guidelines emphasize a “Be a Good Neighbor” approach to tailgating, asking fans to respect neighboring tailgates and shared spaces, keep sidewalks, roadways and emergency access points clear, maintain music and activities at reasonable levels and help keep campus clean throughout the day.
Other provisions of the revised guidelines include:
- Tailgating may begin at 7 a.m. on the day of each home athletic event unless otherwise announced.
- Personal tailgating tents are permitted in designated locations and generally may not exceed 12 feet by 20 feet without advance written permission.
- Inflatables and enclosed spaces require prior written approval.
- Registered student organizations and recognized campus groups will designate contacts to coordinate game day logistics with University officials.
- Golf carts must remain on streets and roadways and may not be operated on sidewalks. Operators must be licensed drivers.
- Fans who choose to consume alcoholic beverages while tailgating are expected to do so responsibly and in accordance with Alabama law.
- Music should remain at a reasonable volume and be appropriate for a family-friendly game day environment. Live bands, DJs and other amplified entertainment are not permitted unless provided or approved by the University.
The revised guidelines also note that, beginning with the 2026-27 athletic year, a clear bag policy will be enforced at all TROY athletic venues for ticketed events.
Troy Athletics, the Troy University Police Department, the Division of Student Affairs and University leadership will continue working together throughout the season to provide a welcoming and enjoyable game day experience for all fans.
