Journalists Savanah Weed has joined the University Relations staff at Troy University.

Troy University is excited to announce the addition of Savanah Weed as a Coordinator in the Office of University Relations.

Weed comes to TROY after spending more than a year as a staff writer for the The Enterprise Ledger while simultaneously serving as content manager for The Eufaula Tribune. Prior to that, she worked in marketing and advertising sales for two years for The Southeast Sun in Enterprise and as a staff writer for The Monroe Journal in Monroeville for one year after graduating from Troy.

A native of Midland City, Ala., Weed earned a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism in 2017. She was a summa cum laude graduate, president of Lambda Pi Eta, a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, a Foundation Scholar and a recipient of a Chancellor’s Scholarship.

As a student at TROY, Weed was named a 2016 Mark of Excellence Award Region 3 Winner from the Society of Professional Journalists and was eventually named the 2016 Region 3 Mark of Excellence Award National Winner. She also earned the 2019 Alabama Press Association Better Newspaper Contest Third Place Photo Essay award while at The Monroe Journal.

With her return to TROY, Weed hopes to merge her love of community-focused writing with her love for the college.

“My greatest calling in life has been to serve others, and I’ve found that writing has been the answer to that calling. I’m excited to bring that to the TROY community,” she said. “Troy has felt like home to me since I stepped foot on campus in 2013, so it’s nice to be back and to get to tell the stories of a new group of budding professionals, innovators and leaders, not to mention TROY’s exceptional faculty and staff.”

Matt Clower, Senior Director of Communications, said he was thrilled to have Weed join the University Relations team.

“Our University Relations staff helps tell the TROY story online and in print,” Clower said. “As a gifted writer and talented community journalist, Savanah brings a wealth of skill to the team, and we are proud to have her.”
